hour4hour

§ Terms

Terms of Service

Effective date: August 28, 2026

These terms are written in plain language so they're easy to actually read. They are not legal advice, and nothing here should be treated as a substitute for talking to your own attorney or tax professional.

What hour4hour is

hour4hour is a services-only time bank. Members offer and request services from each other — never goods or physical items. One hour of any service always equals one credit, no matter the skill or market rate. There is no way to buy credits with dollars, sell credits for dollars, or cash credits out. The platform takes no commission or cut of any hour settled between members.

How exchanges work

A member proposes an exchange. The other member accepts, counters, or declines. Once both sides agree, the exchange moves to in progress. When the service is complete, both members confirm completion independently, and credits settle automatically between their accounts. Either member can leave a review afterward.

Notice

This is not tax advice. You may need to report the value of services you receive.

Taxes

Trading services instead of dollars does not make an exchange tax-free. Time-bank credits have real value — one hour's worth of the service you received — and depending on your situation, that value may be taxable income to you. We don't take a position on your specific tax obligations, and we don't offer a "credits have no value" theory, because that isn't how the IRS treats bartered services. If you're unsure how an exchange affects your taxes, talk to a tax professional.

No cash value, no commission

  • Credits cannot be purchased with money, sold for money, or exchanged for cash in any way.
  • Credits have no fixed dollar value — they represent one hour of service, full stop.
  • hour4hour never takes a percentage, fee, or commission out of an hour settled between members.

Who can use hour4hour

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. Before you meet another member in person for the first time, we require ID verification to help keep the community accountable — that document is reviewed by an operator and is never shown to other members.

Banned services

We do not allow listings or exchanges involving illegal activity, weapons, drugs, medical or clinical care requiring a license you don't hold, adult or sexual services, or any service that creates a serious risk of physical harm to a member. We may remove listings or suspend accounts that violate this at our discretion.

Member conduct

  • Be honest about what you're offering and what you actually need.
  • Show up for exchanges you've agreed to, or cancel with reasonable notice.
  • Treat other members with respect. Harassment, discrimination, and threats are grounds for removal.
  • Use the in-app report and block tools if a member makes you feel unsafe or violates these terms.

No guarantee of members' work

hour4hour connects members — it does not perform, supervise, insure, or guarantee the quality, safety, or outcome of any service exchanged between members. You're responsible for evaluating who you exchange services with, just as you would with any person you meet to do work for you or with you.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, hour4hour and its operators are not liable for any damages, losses, injuries, or disputes arising from an exchange, meeting, or interaction between members. hour4hour is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.

Changes to these terms

If we make a meaningful change to these terms, we'll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
